mmm.... :)

So, I kept hearing about this new craze for desserts: cake balls.  After just a little bit of googling, I figured out how to make these super-easy treats!  We made them as Christmas gifts for friends back at school.  Here's some basic directions :)
Ingredients
-cake mix & necessary ingredients
-can of cake frosting
-chocolate coating (candiquik/almond bark)
-skewers & mini muffin cups

First, bake the cake according to the directions and let it cool completely.
Next, take sections of the cake and crumble it up.  Mix about 3/4 of a container of frosting in with the cake crumbles (and you might have to adjust the amount of frosting that you use if you snack while crumbling ;).  By spoonfuls, roll the cake/frosting mixture into balls and place on pan to freeze for a couple hours or until hard.   You should be able to get about 50-60 cake balls.

Now for the fun part ;)  You'll need to melt either some candy chocolate or almond bark to dip the cake balls in.  (hint: I prefer the candyquik coating because it melts easier and dries faster than almond bark :)

I used a skewer to dip the cake balls in the chocolate coating and waited to take them off until the chocolate had dried (usually under a couple minutes).  Mini-muffin cups work great to put the cake balls in for presentation :)

Ta-Da!

And then (just for the fun of it), we made little bags to put them in!  Just your basic brown paper bag with scrapbooking paper.
These little button pins finished off the christmas bags and held it all together :)

Happy baking :)

Merry Christmas!
