project: balloons & string

A Pinterest inspired project!  For a while, I had been thinking that it would be fun to decorate the church for the kids clubs that we have, and this project came to mind!  Simple, fast, and very affordable.

What you will need:
-little balloons (water balloon size)
-liquid corn starch (you can make this too!)
-flour

-string (or embroidery floss)

I started out by making my own liquid corn starch (since I couldn't find any).  All you need is cornstarch and water and this recipe.

Next, mix 1 cup of liquid corn starch and 1/2 cup of flour to form the paste for the string.  Carefully, coil the string in the mixture (so it doesn't get tangled).

Blow up the balloons and wrap the string around the outside in whatever pattern you so desire :)  Allow the balloon to dry at least overnight and then pop the balloon (this was Cielo's favorite part!).

And ta-da!  Beautiful, very inexpensive decorations :)  You can make it as a garland (like this website suggests), hang them from the ceiling, or place in a basket or vase to display.
